Waiting for SAAS . and why updates are very annoying
I really like the idea of software as a service. To get to the point that I never have to update or patch or mnonitor my upgrades for a piece of software is indeed a very nice goal to aspire to.
Just this morning I had to urgently use Microsoft Office 2008 on my Mac to open a word document ( my first mistake was that I still use microsoft spoftware on a mac , my second mistake is that I still tolerate people sending me information that does not need to be formatted to be understood as a word doc attachment). I accidentally clicked update before I tried to open my document and that was when Office 2008 started its update process .
20 miniutes later I am still waiting for the update to be applied. Due to my previous frustrations with this particular software I am paranoid and dont want to open my doc while it is updating. consequently my decision to update at this crucial hour has cost me 20 minutes of frustratation.
I think software manufactures will have to start paying me everytime I apply an update or patch something they shipped and I paid for!
I would really prefer to use software on the cloud! . Then I am only hoping that my subscription stayus current and would prefer paying a few fractions of a cent everytime I needed a service , so that my annual bill is aorund $20 for say something like microsoft word.
With that I think I come to my final point . How much would I pay for anything thats software as a service. $20 or the price of a pitcher of beer ..whichever is more forĀ ayears worth of useage.
Of course my first preference would still be to use software thats free..but I am pragmatic and realize that its not always possible to get soemething free
Anyways my update has finally finished and Microsoft owes me $25 for 20mins of my wasted time waiting for this update
